The well-known American Academy of Dramatic Arts, which was founded in 1884 in New York, established a campus in Pasadena in 1974. The conservatory, however, relocated from Pasadena to Hollywood in 2001. The conservatory was the first institution in the United States to offer professional acting instruction, with a two-year curriculum that prepares performers for the stage. Before moving to San Diego County, Point Loma Nazarene University was based in Pasadena and used the titles Pasadena University and Pasadena College.
