The Leading Authority in Samsung Certified Appliance Repair in Sunny Isles Beach
Sunny Isles Beach, officially known as the City of Sunny Isles Beach, is a fairly populated city on the barrier island northeast of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The Atlantic Ocean bounds it to the east and the Intracoastal Waterway to the west.
Sunny Isles Beach is a culturally diverse area with its main thoroughfare, Collins Avenue, lined with stores. It is renowned for having the United States' 14th tallest skyline despite its relatively low population.
Developers like Michael Dezer have invested heavily in constructing high-rise hotels and condominiums as the city is a growing resort area. Some buildings are licensed with the Donald Trump name for promotional purposes. Sunny Isles Beach has a central location, minutes from Aventura to the north and west and Bal Harbour to the south.
Sunny Isles Beach was also the site of MTV's annual Spring Break celebration in 2008, with headquarters at the local Newport Beachside Resort. The city has a 2020 population of 22,342. Covering roughly 1.81 square miles, Sunny Isles Beach had a population density of 22,098.91 people per square mile.
In 1920, private investigator Harvey Baker Graves purchased a 2.26-square-mile tract of land to develop as a tourist resort. He named it Sunny Isles, the American Riviera.
In 1925, following the completion of the Haulover bridge, the area became easily accessible from Miami Beach, attracting developers who dug canals and inlets, widened streams, and created islands and peninsulas to build waterfront properties on Biscayne Bay.
In 1936, Kurtis Froedtert, a Milwaukee malt magnate, bought Sunny Isles. The Sunny Isles Pier was constructed and soon became a popular destination. The community developed slowly until the 1950s, when they built single-family homes in the Golden Shores.
During the 1950s and 1960s, more than 30 hotels sprang along Collins Avenue, including Ocean Palm, the country's first two-story motel. It was designed by Norman Giller in 1948 and developed and owned by the Gingold family. It provided the springboard for Sunny Isles' economic development.
Tourists soon came from all over to visit and have a vacation in themed motels of exotic design along "Motel Row." Norman Giller named the Fountainhead motel after Ayn Rand's novel. As of 2013, the Ocean Palm Motel is closed.
In 1982, the Sunny Isles Pier was designated a historic site. It went through significant restoration and was opened to the public in 1986. Hurricane Wilma severely damaged the pier in October 2005. After eight years, it was reopened as Newport Fishing Pier on June 15, 2013.
Citizens voted to incorporate the area as a municipality in 1997. Sunny Isles was renamed Sunny Isles Beach. It began major redevelopment during the 2000s real estate boom, with mostly high-rise condominiums and hotels under construction along Collins Avenue.
